Hanh was born and grew up in a small city in Vietnam in a family where it was commonplace to bring freshly picked branches of tea back from the market to brew and drink throughout the day in its raw, undried form.
During college in Vietnam, Hanh studied to become a Chinese teacher and later continued her studies abroad in China where she completed a Masters Degree in Teaching Chinese for Speakers of Foreign Languages. It was during the years living and studying in Yunnan, China – the birth place of tea – that she got her first taste of the depth of tea culture and began her journey of learning and practicing the art of tea.
She continued to carry that spirit of delighting in the enjoyment and exploration of tea, even after moving to the US to start a new life in 2014. Building upon her interest and passion, a dream would later unfold when in 2019 she built the concept for, opened and operated Nam Sen Teahouse with her partner in Bisbee, Arizona. While operating the teahouse, Hanh’s relationship with tea deepened such that its culture and ritual has become an inseparable part of her life.
After the closing of the teahouse, Hanh has continued to spend more time sitting with tea and performing tea ceremony while always remaining open to continue learning about this art. She will be delighted to brew you a cup of tea in the Tea Space!
